Cross Country from Thursday in Chamberlain

The Chamberlain Big Dakota Cross Country Invite took place on Thursday. The girls race was won by Chamberlain’s Allison Hough. Jolie Dugan of Jones County was runner up, Chamberlain’s Ella Byers was third while Sidda Schuyler of Winner came in fourth. The Chamberlain girls won the team title while Winner finished second. On the boys side, Tyson Iyotte of White River finished in first place while his teammate Caden Whipple was runner up. Burker’s Jackson Liewer was third, Caden Tegethoff of Platte-Geddes finished fourth while Austin Olson of Jones County rounded out the top five. White River won the boys team title while Platte-Geddes was second and Todd County finished third.

Preview for Burke at TDA-AC/DC for Friday

Tomorrow night, the Burke Cougar football team will head to Lake Andes to battle Tripp-Delmont/Armour-Andes Central/Dakota Christian. The Cougars (3-1) are coming off a thrilling, 26-22 come from behind win from last week as they were able to come back after falling behind 22-0 in the first half in Corsica.  Mike Sebern’s team is averaging over 265 rushing yards per game this season in addition to 120 receiving yards per contest. Senior Brock Karbo has thrown for over 400 yards on the season for the Cougars and Junior Finn Hanson leads the Burke ground game as he has rushed for 344 yards this year. TDA/AC/DC is 2-2 on the season and have won two in a row. The last two weeks, the Nighthawks have outscored Avon and Centerville a combined 88-12. Doski’s pre-game from Lake Andes tomorrow will start at 6:25 on Magic 93.

Tomorrow night we will provide you with coverage of High School Football from Valentine, Nebraska and Lake Andes. On Magic 93, the Burke Cougars will go for their fourth victory of the season when they play Tripp-Delmont/Armour-Andes Central/Dakota Christian. Doski’s pre-game show will start at around 6:25. On Country 1260 tomorrow night, the Valentine Badgers will host the Winner Warriors at 7pm. Scott and Brett will go on the air with their pre-game show at 6:25.

Football previews for Colome and Gregory Football

The Colome Cowboys and Gregory Gorillas will be back in action at home this Friday after both teams were idle last Friday.  The Cowboys will have their Homecoming game against the 2-1 Gayville/Volin Raiders. Gayville/Volin has scored wins over Centerville and Avon after they lost to Burke in week 1, 52-6. The Cowboys (3-0) have scored at least 50 points in each of their wins. The defense has allowed a grand total of 24 points this season. Jackson Kinzer has completed over 68 percent of his passes and is also averaging over ten yards per rush attempt. Chase Dufek leads the Cowboys with 332 rushing yards on the season. Senior Layton Thieman has led Colome from the receiver position with four touchdown catches. At Mike Dacy Field for Friday, the 3-0 Gorillas will battle 0-3 Rapid City Christian. Brian Allmendinger’s team seems to be getting better by the week as they have went from 12 points scored in the opening week of the season to then 40 points scored on Parkston before beating Jones County/White River on August 31st, 69-18. The Comets are looking for their first victory of the season. They have fallen to New Underwood, Wall and Philip the first three weeks of 2018. Good luck to both Gregory and Colome on Friday!

Caldwell victorious at Winner Invite

Chamberlain’s Cameron Caldwell shot a tournament best 83 on Tuesday to claim victory at the Winner Invitational. Parkston’s Quinn Bormann was runner up as he shot an 86. Tyler Wright of St. Francis finished fifth with an 88 while Bryce Hammer carded a 91 to finish ninth overall. Winner Area’s Gage Watson finished 12th with a 92. Parkston won the team title while Chamberlain was third.
