Cook the Book Tonight at the Gregory Public Library

The next “Cook the Book” event takes place tonight at 5:30p.m. at the Gregory Public Library.  People are encouraged to bring a signature dish that they have created. This can also include a secret family recipe handed down from generations. This will be a recipe swap and give others a chance to try something new they might want to share with their family at home. Local Area Proms this Weekend

Colome High School will hold their prom this Friday night (April 22nd).  This year’s theme is “enchanted forest” and the dance begins at 8:00 p.m.

Lyman High School will hold their prom this Saturday night (April 23rd) with a “casino” theme this year and the dance begins at 8:00 p.m.

Winner Regional Health Announces New Collaboration with LifeServe Blood Center

Winner Regional Health recently announced a new collaboration with LifeServe Blood Center and its community partners facilitating local blood drives.

Winner Regional Health joins 28 other hospitals in South Dakota to manage their blood services. While the Hospital has made the transition this past January of 2022, the community blood drives will be switching to LifeServe in May of 2022.

The next community blood drive will be on Monday, May 23rd from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Tuesday, May 24th from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Tripp County 4H Building in Winner, South Dakota.

Winner Regional Health extends a sincere thank you to the community partners who host annual blood drives. Those organizations for 2022 include: Winner High School National Honor Society, Winner Rotary Club, Winner Regional Health, Southern Belle Cattlewoman’s Club, Community Connections, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Election Results in Central South Dakota

There were several local city and school board elections Tuesday in our coverage area.

For the City of Colome, running for mayor were incumbent Brad Hill and David Witt. Brad Hill defeated David Witt 44 votes to 26 votes.

Tara Beckers and Casey Harter ran for a city council position for Ward 2.  In a very close election, Tara Beckers defeated Casey Harter 14 votes to 13 votes.

Kelly Leighton, Kelly Dougherty, and Victor Senter ran for a city council position for Ward 3.  Kelly Leighton won the position with 28 votes to Kelly Dougherty’s 21 votes and Victor Senter’s 8 votes.

For the City of Winner, Roger Farley and Joe Hockett were running for a city council position for Ward 2.  Joe Hockett defeated Roger Farley 89 to 77 votes.

For the Winner School Board, Julie Manke (incumbent), Scott Meiners (incumbent), Jon Barfuss, Corey Audiss, and Lynnelle Anderson ran for three open positions on the board.  Julie Manke, Scott Meiners, and Lynnelle Anderson won the three school board positions with 287, 252, and 246 votes respectively.

For the City of Gregory, running for Ward 2 were the late Seymour Studenberg, Darwin Grim, and Butch Rolf. Darwin Grim won the position with 34 votes over the late Seymour Studenberg and Butch Rolf who both had 25 and 15 votes respectively.

For the Platte-Geddes School Board, Tom Olsen, Dennis DeBoer (incumbent), Roxi Summerville (incumbent) , and Heather VanDerWerff (incumbent) were running for three open positions.  Dennis DeBoer, Roxi Summerville and Tom Olsen won the three board positions with 216, 216, and 179 votes respectively.

Local City and School Board Elections Today

There are several local city and school board elections today in our coverage area with polls from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

For the City of Colome, running for mayor are incumbent Brad Hill and David Witt.  Tara Beckers and Casey Harter are running for a city council position for Ward 2. Kelly Leighton, Kelly Dougherty, and Victor Senter are running for a city council position for Ward 3.  The polling location will be at the Colome Fire Hall.

For the City of Winner, Roger Farley and Joe Hockett are running for a city council position for Ward 2.  Ron Sprenkle is the only person that took out a petition and will become the new councilman for Ward 1 as Justin Schuyler is not seeking re-election. Austin Klundt will remain councilman for Ward 3.

For the Winner School Board, Julie Manke (incumbent), Scott Meiners (incumbent), Jon Barfuss, Corey Audiss, and Lynnelle Anderson are running for three open positions on the board. The Polling location for the Winner City and school elections will be at the Winner city council chambers.

For the City of Gregory, Al Cerny is running unopposed for Mayor and will become Mayor as incumbent Scott Anshutz is not seeking re-election. Another new addition to the council will be Guhner Kepler who is running unopposed for Ward 1 and will have a one-year term.

Running for Ward 2 will be the late Seymour Studenberg, Darwin Grim, and Butch Rolf. Due to Mr. Studenberg’s passing being after Feb 25th he remains on the ballot and if he is to win it would result in a vacancy of the seat and new mayor Al Cerny would then be able to appoint whomever he chooses. The polling location will be at the Gregory Memorial Auditorium.

For the Platte-Geddes School Board, Tom Olsen, Dennis DeBoer (incumbent), Roxi Summerville (incumbent) , and Heather VanDerWerff (incumbent) are running for three open positions.  All terms are 3 years.

The Platte-Geddes School District Election will be held at the Community Building in Platte and at the American Legion Building in Geddes.
