HUTMACHER BEAT ANTHONY GUTRIDGE OF ILLINOIS IN THE SEMIFINAL ROUND ON MONDAY.

We have a pair of golf tournaments coming up this weekend. Saturday is the women’s two person best ball tournament at the Winner Country Club with a 10:30 shotgun start. The cost is eighty dollars per team and that includes mulligans and a lunch. To signup call 842-0686. On Sunday is the Men’s Open Tournament at the Ainsworth Golf Course with a 10am shotgun start. It will be a rodeo filled weekend in Jones County! The Gumbo Ridge bronc ride will be held this Friday, July 20th at the Murdo Arena. Calcutta is at 6:30 with the bronc ride and ranch bronc ride to follow. On Saturday the 21st, the 9th annual Murdo Ranch Rodeo will happen at the Rodeo Arena. Calcutta is at 4:30 with the rodeo to follow. There are new kids events this year! 4 person teams will be in action along with rope relays and team penning. There will also be mutton bustin and mini bronc rides too.

Day two of State Softball took place Saturday in Sioux Falls. In the 16U Tournament, Gregory was eliminated by the BV Swat as they fell, 7-6. The Burke 14U team beat the Dells Whiplash, 14-1 and then won 8-7 over the Greyhounds. Gregory beat the Burke 14U team yesterday, 8-3. Dakota Valley beat Gregory, 12-0. The Platte 12U girls beat Tea 23-6 before they fell to Dakota Valley, 5-3. The Burke 12U girls fell to Dakota Valley, 12-0. In the 18U Tournament, Clearfield beat Dairy Queen. 8-7 and they then beat the BV Zoom, 10-9. The SD Rush beat the Winner 18U team, 17-3.

Day 2 of 10U State Tournament in Platte and Corsica

Day 1 of State Softball took place Friday in Sioux Falls. Locally in the 12U C Division, Platte won their first game against Vermillion 8-5. Madison defeated Platte last night, 2-0. The Burke 12U girls won their first game at state over the Brookings Blast, 13-4. Burke then fell to the B.Y.B. Saints by a final of 10-7. In the 14U C Division, Gregory won their first game against the Dell Rapids Whiplash, 17-2. Gregory won game two over the Rapid City Terror, 8-7. In the 16U Division, the Sioux Falls Inferno beat Gregory, 16-9. In the 18U C Division Tournament, it was quite the day for Winner! Winner won their first game over Chaos, 7-1. Winner then came back and defeated Scotland, 9-6. Today at 12:30, the Winner 18U girls will play in the semifinals against the SD Rush. In the 14U Tournament, Burke will play at 8am against the Dells Whiplash. Gregory will play at 2pm. In the 12U Tournament, Platte will play Tea at 9:30 while Burke will battle Dakota Valley at 9:30am. In the 16U Tournament at 8am, Gregory plays Brandon Valley.

The Gregory and Winner Junior Teener Baseball teams are state bound after the conclusion of the Regional Tournament in Platte that wrapped up on Wednesday. Winner was victorious in their elimination game over Platte, 9-6. Gregory was crowned Region champions as they beat Winner in five innings, 15-2. The State Tournament will be held in Gregory July 20th through the 22nd. We will have coverage of all the Gregory and Winner games on Magic 93 next week. Be sure to stay tuned for matchups this week! In teener baseball last night, Kimball/White Lake defeated Mount Vernon/Plankinton, 2-1. Legion Baseball took place in the heart city last night as Winner/Colome defeated Valentine, 24-14.
